gas stoves

Has anyone had experience with the small gas stoves run with gas cartridges. How long does a cartridge last ?? Many thanks regards Jinki

About 1.5 hours full flame per cartridge - we get them in Adelaide at discount type stores (Cheap as Chips etc) for $2 a can.
Excellent type of stove - will never be without one.

Hey Jinki,

These stoves are excellent as a lunch stop stove or morning tea to heat the kettle or fry and egg or steak. I will offer a word of warning, don't rely on them in cold climates as the gas turns to liquid inside the can and you have to warm the can to turn the liquid back to gas. We had this experience in the Vic High Country a few years back and it was fun trying to figure out why our gas supply had somehow run low or so we first thought.

Apart from this they are an excellent item to travel with as a backup stove and the gas catridges last a long time for the cost.

I must have got one made on Monday!!..received one as a present last year and have had no luck with it as yet..the gas keeps leaking out of the cylinder as soon as we go to use it...Took it back and it was replaced however same problem..maybe I'm not hi tech enuff.

Have you nticed there is a notch in the rim on the gas cannister (near the nozzle) make sure you line this notch up with the tab on the cannister slide, where the nozzle inserts. If you don't line this notch up correctly the cannsiter will not seat properly and hence the leak and no flame.

Thats my two bobs worth, may be right, may be wrong...let me know how you go.

Have had a similar with my stove and found that the back metal bracket needed bending forward slightly so that the cylinder pushes home when you engage it.

It is worth taking the cartridge out when not in use (when travelling) as the plastic case the stove comes in is pretty flimsy. Sometimes when it is upright or upside down you can hear the gas leaking even though the gas lever is in the off position.
Other than that they do make a great second stove.

We use ours for a back-up and day trips. Great stove for coffee breaks. Just check around for the prices though. Ours cost $19.95 from a discount chain store - Crazy Prices, you know, those stores that sell stock from other stores that have gone bust etc. I have seen exactly the same stoves at camping stores, Big W, hardware stores etc, ranging from $30 to $65.00. Can't find any difference from the one I bought other than a change of brand name.
