Anyone had any experience with any of the Rotronics controllers?

Sam, no direct experience with the Rotronics model. I assume it is a fully automatic system? as this is what most peopel seem to go for. However i prefer a higher quality and capacity fully manual marine grade switch, i was put onto this by my local Toyota dealership and works a treat. of cause my system is only suitable for people who want total control over the battery setup.

I was seriously considering of doing the same thing as you have done. Is the switch that you are using one of those that you can select which battery you want to use, or is it an isolator switch that disconects the second battery????
I have a 97 discovery and the only thing stoppng me putting in one of those selector switches is that i dont know if the electrics will handle the voltage changes and bleep them selves ( you know how these computers are), Any one out there have any experiance or ideas ??

I have installed the manually switched system using a heavy duty marine switch and has worked very well - 3 years or so. I make sure that I only switch over when the motor is off to minimise any chance of doing damage to the electrics.

Sam, Fitted a Rotronics RA80 parallel controller back in 1998 to my GQ Patrol. This controls the charge to the auxiliary battery and I have never had a problem. The priority is always to the main battery and when fully charged the unit automatically switches to charge the auxiliary. Rotronics have their own website with lots of good information. hehehehehe no worries John, I knew what ya meant. Spoke to Rod and got some prices. Am now trying to sort out the battery. I am very interested in the Optima's but, finding a space in the engine bay is a bit of a bugger with a 2.8 Diesel Hilux. Have seen it done, but the 2nd battery seems rather small, might just be able to squeeze an Optima in if i lay it on its side. Am still exploring more options. Will keep you all informed as to what my final outcome is. Cheers.
