Waeco fridge lid warped and still waiting for new one

Submitted: Tuesday, Mar 02, 2004 at 11:05

Has anyone else been waiting for a new lid for their Waeco? Mine is the third one that has warped in only 12 months and I live in the Vic high country where it is not excessively hot. I have been on a waiting list (aparantly) since November and still have not got one. Waeco say that this has been a problem for the CF 50's and they have "new generation" better lids on back order.

Anyone recieved a new lid yet?

I havnt put in for mine yet, but I worked at a show recently in Canberra next to the waeco man and he said all you need to do is see your local dealer who can order one in without problems.
If you have already done this, my advice is useless.
cheers

Who did you call? I have called Blackburn (Vic) and the head office in Queensland and they both put me on a list.

Did you get the new thick one or the original hollow lid? They said that they have got a new lot made that are thick and heavy.

I phoned Waeco for a new lid for the 50 litre fridge on Monday morning and courier delivered it Wednesday morning
Second time I have had great service from Waeco
Evakool fridge broke one off the rubber locks. Sent Evakool an email on the weekend and a new rubber lock was in my mail on Wednesday morning.
Evakool has better insulation and uses less power. The new offroad caravan is having 2 Evakool fridges fitted. A special small ED34 that will be used as freezer and an ED50 for fridge.

I certainly dont want to start a fridge debate but can you refer me to any independent tests that verify your claim that Evacool uses less power and is better insulated.

I have had nothing but trouble with 3 way fridges in the tropics so I reckon you are on the right track.

Thanks

A mate of mine is a Waeco dealer. He had a warped lid on a 50 litre and had it replaced with no problem or delay. However another mate had a fan blade break off on a 110 litre .I delivered the fridge to the authorised repairer and it took about 4 weeks to repair and after some nasty phone calls it was fixed .Its a big job to undo six screws and pull a 2 pin conector off and replace the fan. When asked about a replacment fridge, the repairer replyed with,I'm here your there bad luck.I feel that Waeco's best mate warranty tested a fiendship this time.
PS the Fridge cover that was too small has still not arrived 8 weeks later

I got a ENGEL 39, the lid never warped. Must just be lucky. Great to have the good after sales service. Good to know each time the lid warps you get it replaced quickly and for free. How do they get the new lid to you when you are fishing Yalata 45 degree heat trying to keep your 80lb Mulloway fillets frozen to take home???!!!

Can't say I've ever eaten the above fish, but that must be an impressive fish if they get to 80lb. And I suppose the sport is great hauling up Coral Trout and Red Throat on 80lb braid from 60m - especially when they keep fighting so hard with that big blown swim bladder and all.!

All I can say is that there is nothing quite like having to battle for 30 minutes on 25ln mono from the surf - and don't know about the eating quality of your jewies up there but down here they certainly get better with size (one of the few fish that do) and are up there with atlantic salmon/snapper (our big reds not your little pinkies). Love those 5 foot fillets!

By the way my point was That I have seen many threads on engel vs waeco and very little criticism of the waeco - until now. I knew I paid a little more for a lot better fridge! Doesn't warp in the sun. Hate to think what will happen to them in the next five years when my engel hasn't missed a beat and especially with global warming and all the waecos end up a pile of melted plastic!!

P.S. I've never really though of myself as a S^#t stirrer, guess I'd better start from now!!!

I find it funny that Waeco have so many "factory second" fridges for sale and no one has ever queried their reliablility. People have even discussed how the waecos are warranty repaired being sold but are great cos they are cheap and come with a warranty. I am with you, perfer to pay a little bit more for a fridge that works!
