fuel transfer pump

Submitted: Wednesday, May 08, 2002 at 00:00

Andreas

I am after a pump to transfer diesel from an auxiliary tank to a main tank on a vehicle so ti has to run off 12V DC. Anyone have any suggestions. I am looking at at a flow rate of around 25lpm and preferably a pump which won't cark it if it is inadvertantly run dry. TIA Andreas.

Andreas: have you had a think about a bilge pump for a boat ? These are inexpensive, simple and efficient, and IMHO reckon this may be the way to go...

Hello Andreas
some vecicles come std with twin tanks and transfer pump,eg patrols, suggest you obtain one of these pumps from wrecking yard or parts supplier, after all they are purpose built for your needs.
happy travelling

Andreas, my first thought is why not simply connect a fuel line from your auxillary tank to a three-way valve on your existing fuel line. Then you don't need a pump. Is there another consideration that you're not telling us about? Regards, Gordon.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I hadn't thought of a bilge pump. I had thought of a pump off a Patrol but I thought they were fairly low volume. I was thinking of pumping to the existing tank because I didn't want to muck around with fuel return lines as well. Andreas
