gmc generators
Submitted: Thursday, Apr 01, 2004 at 09:09
CHRIS
Purchased a GMC generator the other day and decided to try it out.(its rated at 850w and 650w continuous). Plugged a power saw into it and it worked fine, but looked at the power rating of the saw later and it stated 1350w. Can any one explain how it can run this without tripping out.

Were you cutting anything with the saw at the time? No load current may be much lower.

but the initial surge when the saw is turned on would be more than the 650-850 watts.

True. But maybe the surge is short and protection is not electronic but thermal and requires some time to trip.
Either way it obviously works but should trip if under load.
Easy way to check is digital tong tester.

i have bought one of these generators. It seems well made, but the output voltage seems low, so equipment such as a PC trips with a low voltege input.
I get 215V at no load, down to 205V with a 250W resistive load. Do you have any idea of the output of yours ?

The voltage on mine ranges from 238v to 247v at 100watt load. I would have your multimeter checked to make sure you dont have a crook meter. Also checked with a cooler can
fridge
connected with a similar voltage showing.
