Pop into the town of Penguin if you go past on the main road, it has the best egg and bacon pies i've ever tasted.

Cradle mount. is pretty good. I try to sneak in some sight seeing when i'm down there for work but usually run out of time to get well off the beaten track, and those x-trail rent a bombs dont go where i want to anyway hehehehe..

I'm sure the tas members will point you to some 'local secrets'..

Hi, Just got back from Tassie in my Prado Diesel Turbo, went up to Stanley, Arthur River, Western Explorer to Strahan, Hobart, Port Arthur, Coles Bay, Launceston, St. Helens and King Island (by plane).
Must see are: Penquin, Stanley, Arthur River, Queenstown, Hobart (Salamanka Markets),Port Arthur, St. Helens area and Forest Drives, Launceston area including trip around the Tamar River, Strawberry Picking, Mole Creek, Deloraine, Liffey Falls,Honey Pot in Mole Creek area and Cataract Gorge and stop at the roadside stalls and taste the fruits of the nation and cheeses etc.
My real pick was the East coast from Hobart up to St. Helens and surrounds and trip to Launceston, Deloraine, Mole creek area. Would love to see more of area between St.Helens and Launceston. Take as many dirt road tracks as you can, great country.
Next trip is the Cape. - cheers

I would recomend all of the above, do the Gordon river cruise at Strahan with the Sarah Is tour, brilliant is the word. Bruny Is is worth a look go to Kelly's and have a beer, over look's Storm Bay and Truganini's memorial, it's a Penguin watch as well, can't say enough about Tassie, beautiful place. The Stix forest, Dip falls, Tahune airwalk, Cradle mountain so much to see you'll love it.

Check out the Holy Cow cafe and cheese factory and the Pub In The Paddock, both at Pyn Ghana (spelling?) on the highway between St Helens and Scotsdale. Also the Elephants Pass cafe makes the best crepes you've ever tasted. (no EFTPOS so take your cash).
Down south Hastings caves are amazing.
Up north, take a drive up Mt Ben Lomond. Jacobs ladder is unreal!! (not for trailers)

Geoff. If you want to go offroad check with the Parks mob re their 'Cruisen without brusin' handout that lists 20 odd tours around the state. Some of the trips are on locked tracks so must pick up a key for entry (was free). Not sure if it's still open but the highlight for us was the Mt McCall track into the Franklin river. Other recomended driving : Balfour trk / Nelson Bay, Wellington Fire trails behind Hobart and Trial Harbour to Granville Harbour. Craig.................

My pick, Coles bay area, great lakes area (spot of trout fishing as well), devils canyon area, Arthur river area and of course cradle mountain (you have to do the walk to the top) & lake sinclair area. If the kids area old and fit enough and you would like a bush walk and camp over night, the Walls of Jerusalem is awesome. From the carpark it's about 2hrs straight up (kills the calves) but then it's flat. This is the 1000 lake area and is just beautiful. If you think you'll tackle it check weather forecast.

There's a lot to see, just make sure you don't rush what you do see. You can always go back.
