Road conditions in Pilbara/Grt Sandy Desert

I've checked the WA road report, and despite the heavy rain extending SE from Broome as seen on the Bureau of Meteorology site: http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/climate/rainmaps.cgi?page=map&variable=totals&period=week&area=wa the Kunawarritji access Rd and the Kiwirrkurra Rd are reported to be open. Furthermore, discussions with people at these centres indicate that roads in their vicinity are open. How can the Wapet Rd be open after 10 inches of rain in a week? Can any of the locals tell me what the Wapet Rd between Kunawarritji and the coast is really like?

I would not even think of trying to travel those roads at the moment. there will be many days or weeks before I would even look. The Degray bridge is under water at the moment and that is an indication of heaps of water in the inland area. I have a work college who is goin out to have a look at the de grey in flood and will report back inthe next few days.
