Coromal Silhouette Camper Trailer
Submitted: Sunday, May 02, 2004 at 03:47
Coops (Pilbara)
Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about the Coromal "Silhouette" ?
I am very interested in the S391 model in particular but comments on any other models will be appreciated.
regards

The one I think I saw had a section which sticks out the side and the kitchen slides into this spot to give more room inside. Is that the one?
I thought they looked good but I have no Idea how they tow or perform of seald road surfaces. They appeared to be better finished than the Jayco.

yes fibreglass.
Most of Silhouette series has slide out kitchen.
Had a reasonably quick look at Caravan &
Camping
Show earlier this year.
Not looking at it for
Pilbara
but for the more sedate roads of the SW of WA and wherever else the wind takes us.
thanks

suspension
looked good to but Lex dos'nt like caravans. I presume you will get the pioneer pack for off road with the 16" rims & 265/75
tyres
as the standard are onlt 14" rims.

Bob - definitely looking at Pioneer pack and am also hopeful of 285's fitting but that's not all that important.
Wish I'd had a better look at them now as it's going to be a while before I get to check another one out.
Caravan is better than a swag and climbing up & down to the roof rack I reckon. Like a beach house on wheels and I'm looking at lessening the amount of gear we have to cart around. Will still take the swag for off road trips but it's all the
cooking
gear, tables & chairs etc that I'd like to keep out of the cruiser. Basically looking for some comfort also.
cheers & thanks

replied: I can't comment on that model, but my Coromal Capri 600 is now about 4 years old and I am quite happy with it. You probably know that the original Coromals were made by a company in Perth that was taken over by Fleetwood Corp, also in Perth. Shares were about $1.70 a few years ago....now over $7.00!!
From what I see and read, the Coromals are well-made, mid range vans. There are some brands that are better, and some not as good.
Sorry I can't be more helpful re the Silhouette.

replied: Hi Coops,
We have the 4.2m Off road version and to date have had very few problems with it. It has gone everywhere we've been tempted to take it thus far, including Woods Point (in very slippery conditions) and the Buckland Valley which was very corrugated and dusty. We're heading of on for a six week jaunt doing Oodnadatta,
Litchfield
, Arnhem Land, Uluru, Kata Tjuta and the Coorong in a few weeks time and I suppose when we get home we'll have more of an appreciation of our capabilities. We are in the process of making a luggage system for the rear bumper as the Silhouette is very heavy on the tow ball.
If you want to ring me for any more information feel free to on 03 9686 1081.
