Jude, I'm not 100% sure, but i have heard that Avgas is OK in an emergency but is far from ideal as it can cook an engine. You may be able to find some stuff on web sites of BP and/or Shell???

It is quite safe to use av gas as a fuel in unleaded engines we use it all the time in historic race engines However it is ILLEGAL TO USE IT NOW IN STREET CARS as it is a leaded fuel. it is easily smelt from the exhaust pipe.

Sorry i just realised you said unleaded engines , you would have a catalytic converter to worry about and avgas is a leaded fuel the lead will poisen the cat, we dont have that worry with race engines.
