Shortcut - Kalpower Station to Chillagoe
Submitted: Sunday, Jun 09, 2002 at 00:00

G’day all,
I’m looking for a short cut from Kalpower Station in FNQ down to Chillagoe.
Just wondering if anybody on the
forum
has any recent experience with conditions on the track from “Fairview” on the Peninsula Development Road, down through Palmerville and joining the Burke Development Road at around “Wrotham Park” station.
I’m particularly interested in knowing if this track is suitable for towing an off road camper trailer.
Any help would be appreciated – our timeline is early August.
Regards
DennisN

replied: Hi Dennis, I was there a week and a half ago in a Subaru Forrester (Kalpower to Chillagoe). The turnoff at "Fairview" is not marked too well and the road out from Laura is rough for about 5km - the spoon drain isn't too bad. The road from "Fairview" has some sharp dips. Between fairlight and Palmerston stations the road is slow - twisty 2 tracks and tall grass but otherwise Ok. After Palmerston the road improves. The only water crossings are at the Palmer and Mitchell Rivers and will not be any problem 1/2 wheel depth at the most
