Yes you can go and to KI with a camper. Very nice place but watch the round pebbles on the roads....have been rollerovers due to this.

Yes good spot to go camping but the added cost of a trailer over your vehicle used to be quite expensive, call Sealink on 131301 for ferry info.

theres precious little four wheelin there, a bit of sand and a few rocks but its a great place to visitand you'll need at least a week or more. As Pesty said above check the price of the camper on the ferry and then look at some of the on island accomodation its pretty reasonable and very comfortable.

last time I was there it was most enjoyable... but the fuel prices were horrendous as were grocery prices... stock up in Adelaide before you get on the ferry at Cape Jervis...

G'day, thanks for the replys guys, good information all round. More than likely our visit will correspond with our trip (3 months) and it will be in the depths of winter. Looks an interesting destination.
Thanks again,

Great place to visit, plenty to see and do. No 4 wheel driving really on the island. Petrol at the moment is $1.20 pl, assume diesel is around the same.
Cheers Peter

Have been there quite a number of times - as in other replies check the cost of taking your camper on "the world's most expensive ferry"! - Also as mentioned you need at least a week to have a good look - these days you can traverse the island on bitumen - not much of a 4WD experience as in the past! Some "must see's" - Seal Bay, Flinders Chase - all attractions, Hanson Bay - a great place to stay - it's near Flinders Chase - in fact the whole Island is great - pretty wild on the Southern side - calmer on the North side - the Southern Ocean is quite awsome in winter! - don't forget to lift your index finger when you see a car comming in the opposite direction - it's the "island thing to do" - you'll see what I mean almost straight after you get there!

Cheers!

MightyQ,

KI is one of my all time favourite places although it's been many years since I visited. The ferry was expensive even then but worth it to see the wonderful scenery, natural attractions and and arguably the most diverse wildlife contained within a relatively small area. You can read our KI journal and see some pics here.

.........just as a follow up Melissa, Sal and I have just contacted the ferry operators. For our rig (GQ Patrol and Jayco Dove Outback Camper, $138each) and the two of us, $64each,ie $404.00 to get to KI and back. Sad to say that will upset the trip budget a little tooooo much.
