castrol fmx (another oil post!)

greetings all,

Mazda dealer is using castrol FMX in the TD Bravo but there is no mention of this oil on the castrol website. Checking the archives there are posts referring to this oil including one which states that it is only available to dealers.

Is this the case - and if so what oil should I use for the intermediate change?

thanks

Truckster (Vic) replied:

Ask the dealer if you can buy some off him if your really worried.. or ask the dealer to use some other mainstream oil that YOU can purchase if need be.

But if you mean to change while on a long trip, go with some other castrol product, it should be ok

People I know with the very same issue use Magnatec 10W-40.....why not give the dealer this oil when you take it for the service ? You can probably buy it cheaper than he sells it to you for....Magnatec is usually $25-30 in SA (5L).

1an... not sure where you are but buy your oil from a caltex dealer, I get mine from the guy in Queenbeyan & his prices are about 60% of the retail price if you buy in 20 ltr drums...I use softec 5w40 in the Jack. It is formulated for use in high tech turbo diesels and warranted for a 10000km oil change....It costs about $160 for 20 litres...

Made the same enquiry with Castrol last year. Was told it is exactly the same as Castrol Magnatec. FMX is the trade name. Castrol will tell you where you can buy it in bulk, ie 20lt or 205lt.

thanks Peter,

I have since contacted castrol tech services and yes they said to use Magnatec. They left a message on my phone so I didn't get to quiz them about it.

cheers
