Michelle.

Travelled across from Peth To Ayres Rock 4 weeks ago.One of our party had an "off road" caravan and another a heavy duty camper trailer. (Kimberly Kamper). Towed by Troopy and 100 series respectively. No problems. The van did not keep up all the time with the other vehcles but wasn't far behind. Worst part of the road was Docker River to Yalata but it was being graded at the time so could be better now. If you need to know more contact me via E-mail.

Travelled the Outback Hwy June 22-
25/06/02 from Laverton to Alice Springs. The road is suitable for High clearance caravans. About 60 Km west of Giles the road is hard but has a high sand crown for about 20km and the same about 5km west of Giles for 4-5 km.
If you drive according to the conditions and not be in a rush you will not have any problems. Between the border and Docker River (8 km) it is a bit stoney (river stone) but the rest is like any unsealed road . We travelled at an average of 80-90km and had no problems
Have a good trip & let us know how you found it when you get back.

Regards Sylvia

Michelle, We travelled this road about 2 weeks ago. As previously stated the roads are not too bad - just corrugated!! There are patches where the sand is quite high. We travelled with a Pajero and an oldish windup van that isn't off road and it was not a problem. We sat on speeds of 80 - 100 for most of the track. OUr only compalint - THE DUST!!! The van was FULL of it when we got home! Have fun!
