Crystal Creek W.A.

Has anyone travelled to a place called "Crystal Creek" in the
Kimberley
?
If so can you tell me a bit about the area as I have heard it is quite a hard trip getting in to, but the rewards are worth it i.e. scenery, wildlife e.c.t.
Any info would be appreciated & thanks in advance.

Well 55
replied: I tried to get in there but the track was washed just past the T/O to Surveyers Pool.
So ended up flying down there in a chopper, fairly sparce camp area's no shade heaps of large and I mean large croc's and mobs of sand fly's at night.
Only good
fishing
is a high tide and you need a spotter tooled up if you know what I mean. Better
places
to go, Port Wanderer not much better.

Looking to do a trip next August and was considering incorporating Crystal Ck as a possible drive in destination. Are you saying this is totally out of the question or was it just bad track conditions while you were there?
Kind regards

I have been there a couple of times now.
The track is fairly rough, but will depend on how much rain was dumped during the wet.
Definitely no shade, bring your own shade tarp.
Depending on the wind direction, but definitely before April/May, there are heaps of Sand fly's.
Again, depending on tides, Crystal Creek will drain completely at low tide.
Last time there, 2 years ago, a 4.5 metre croc lived in the
top end
of the creek and swam back out as the tides subsided and came back as tides rose.
We always found it good
fishing
, particularly barra at the right ime of the year.
However you need a dingy to be able to go up and down the creek and out to the mouth of the creek.
Easy to launch at Crystal Creek just past the
camping
area between the mangroves

Yes very nice spot, there is a track direct from the falls camp area, at lot of long grass and low
termite mounds
, and you can drive within 100m of the pool.
