I recently fitted a 190 litre tank (which I managed to get 210 litres in first fill) from 4WD systems to my 80 series and can't fault it. A little bit cheaper and easy to fit too!

I recently had a look at a Brown Davis 80L sill tank on a 300tdi, which is a very neat unit. The owner said it cost him about $700. However, when I got a quote for the Td5 they wanted nearly $1300 fitted!

I recently bought a 127l tank for my 300 TDI fitted it myself to save a bit very easy to fit. Only one point remeber to fit the o-ring to the fuel sender. Cost $740.00

I looked at fitting a long range tank in my 110 V8 but as they could only offer a tank capacity increase of 47 litres which would take my standard tank from 80 litres up to the 147 litre tank for a cost over $1000 .
I decided that for $60 I could buy 2 jerry cans and get the same range .
as my car is a bit thirsty (20L/100kms on the tar seal )I can not get a tank large enough for long isolated trips so I carry 17 jerry cans which gives me a capacity of 420L .and a range of about 2100kms.
they fit quite nicely where the rear seat used to be .
as you are driving a diesel you would probably only need 2 or 3 cans which can be mounter on a swing away carrier on the rear.

I know that most people wouldnt consider putting 17 full jerry cans inside the car.but that is the price for the joys of the extra power of the V8 in the sand.

One important difference between the Tdi and the Td5 is that the Td5 has the fuel pump inthe tank, so a tank that suits a Tdi will not necessarily be ok.

Just on jerries, I believe that in some states it is now illegal to carry jerries in holders outside the vehicle. Not sure about roof racks.
