Oil for GU Patrol 3.0TD
Submitted: Tuesday, Feb 01, 2005 at 16:17
H2O
I have read a few older threads and I am planning on taking the vehicle to the mechanic every 10,000kms for
servicing
(warranty reasons) and do the 5km changes myself. The mechanic says he uses Mobil Delvac MX 15w-40. Is that a good type of oil to use. If not I will supply my own oil to the mechanic. The vehicle has 70kms on it at the moment and I have just recently bought it. Should I see what was the last brand that was used and stick with that? I am sure that there would of been a few brands used in it previously.
Cheers
JD

I have been using the Mobil Delvac MX 15-40 since my car was 12 months old, it is now close to 5 years. It was recommended to me by the well known diesel service people near
Canberra
, and I believe it has been good for the vehicle. I do
servicing
religiously every 5K, and change the fuel filter every 10K with the oil filter.
Geoff.

That is absolute rubbish!
You can do your own service. Period.
If you have a warranty claim and the manufacturer refuses to honor it because of incorrect
servicing
, they have to prove that that was the cause of the failure.
Believe me... I have been down that road and won!!!!

On that note, I have a TD6, and the service book shows oil change every 5000ks, and the dealer I bought it off even told me to do that one myself.
10000k services I get done by a mechanic (though not nissan one), but the 5000 is so simple, I do it.

I have been using synforces' "ProSYN D11" for a while and this could be worth looking at. It is a semi synthetic oil made especially for Japanese engines especially Nissans.
Worth considering for what it's worth.

You can do your own
servicing
as long as you use genuine or reputable parts and it is serviced as per the log book service schedual.
Check out www.lonards-automotives.com.au/
servicing
.html for an extract from the Institute of Automotive and Mechanical Engineers journal about warranty services.
Most new cars from 2000 on use the 10W/30 oil and its good stuff. Obviously you have to take into account the ambient temperatures the vehicle will be operating in so if you are going across the Simpson you may have to run a bit thicker oil such as 15W/40 for that area.
