Track Musgrave ranges
Submitted: Wednesday, Feb 02, 2005 at 12:45
BOOTS
Hi,
Big bro & I are heading up to
broome
May/June..wondered if anyone has done track from Curtain Springs via Mt. Conners, Down thru. Musgrave Ranges to Fregan Iwanjtja to Stuart Hwy. just up from
Marla
.
Also, we wondered if you can drive the 'old' Nullabor to get to kalgoolie & what tracks from there up to
Broome
.
Any info would be appreciated. We are getting the trip together, so guess you'll be hearing from me again before we go.
Cheers,
Boots.

sounds like you are looking at the lower CSR and out through Wapet Rd to 80 mile beach and then up the tar to
Broome
? Plenty of info on the CSR on this site, some on the Wapet track.

we went the reverse way from
Marla
to Fregon, Amata, Pipalyatjara last Easter. Your best bet might be to go past Mt Connor, turn left at Mulga Park and hit the bitumen at Victory Downs. The reason is that getting permission to traverse the Pit Lands is nigh on impossible. There is good
camping
to the south of the Victory Downs Rd not far from the Stuart Hwy (nice rocky outcrops etc).
From
Kalgoorlie
up Gt Central Rd then you can head north using CSR, Gary Hwy or
Sandy Blight Junction
Track. Each of them hits the Desert Rd (
Gary Junction
Rd) or the start of the Wapet Rd at Well 33 (Kunawarritji). Turn left and drive to beach.
The SBJT is a great drive. I've only seen the bottom end and the
top end
of the Gary Hwy but it is little used and very tempting. The CSR sadly seems like a bit of a tourist track.
