Bought the S/H Autofridge

Thanks everyone for your input - I bought the secondhand Autofridge I was looking at (PostID: 20224). It arrived last week and has been running superbly. It was a trade-in at Discount Camping in Adelaide. Got it for $450 (which was exactly what Chrispy suggested). It's in excellent condition, the BD35F uses R134 refrigerant and has a handwritten serial number 99xxxx so maybe its not as old as the sales guy guessed. It was traded on a bigger fridge.

It's now the drinks fridge running off a PC power supply I fitted with a Hella plug.

First camping trip is on the long weekend and if it runs as well as it has over the last couple of warm Melbourne days then I'll be very happy.

Thanks again,

Adrian

Thanks Crazie,

Now, I wonder where I can get a fridge slide.....Oh I know....Do you want the measurements in imperial or metric?

BTW, how did you go with the crackle in the UHF?

Adrian - good one mate! :)

You're lucky you got it when you did because I have to say that I had my eye on it too. LOL!

I'm now considering getting rid of our new EvaKool DT for a new Autofridge. Dang! Lotsa bickies!

Cheers

Ya got a bargin there. Did it come with a 240v transformer? I made a specially ventilated ply box to protect the fridge and provide spacing for the heat dispersement panel on the sides. In doing this it allowed me to make up and attach an add-on (like the Engel’s now have) to provide an additional 20lt capacity.

Hi Rod,

It didn't come with a transformer but I just used a power supply out of an old computer I had in the shed. It puts out 8A, is fan cooled and cost me a Hella socket! I tried a 5A CB supply but it wasn't enough to kick over the compressor.

Your Two-Zone idea is interesting. I was told about putting in a piece of ply to divide the top from the bottom so there was a freezer section. How is your extender attached to the fridge? Have you noticed whether the compressor runs a lot more?

Adrian,
Yep I tried the ply divide, wasn't impressed. The extended section is not attached to the fridge. It is attached via alum. angle screwed to 25mm spacer timber on the inside of the protective ply box that the fridge sits in. A rubber seal is between the top of the fridge and extended section. The lid of the fridge is hindged/latched on top of the extended section. I dare say the compressor does run more, it doesn't really worry me as when out bush I turn the fridge off each night. When at home the fridge is in the shed running 24/7.

The control switch (underneath the panel) has as tiny little screw that you can adjust to decrease/increase the temperature. Ya need to do this a little bit at a time and leave overnight to see the difference and re adjust.

I can email some pictures of the extension/box if you would like to provide an email address.

See ya

Rod

Rod,
