When to travel the plenty highway?
Submitted: Wednesday, Mar 02, 2005 at 12:13

Is it feasable to be planning a trip from Qld to Alice, via donohue and Plenty highways, next Feb/March? This site says the Plenty is closed now, the NT gov website says it is open with caution. Is it usually closed every summer? Or is it likely to be OK? Anyone else done it this time of year? Obviously, we wont go without checking conditions at the time.
Thanks.

Feb/March is still within the "normal" Wet Season cycle for the Tropics, which goes through to end of April and sometimes longer.
Going to be suck it & see that time of year.

Thanks for your opinions guys. I think I will keep my eye on
road conditions
for the next month to give me an idea. Then I guess we will just go ahead and plan the trip, and hope we don't have to go via Mt Isa when the time comes!
The central Australian tourist centre say that the rain isn't seasonal, it could come at any time of year, which makes sense because I remember seeing the
Todd river
flow more than once through the winter months!
