Submitted: Wednesday, Nov 06, 2002 at 00:00
Bob
I have a current F250 7.3 Lt Diesel Auto
These vehicles have provision for a Power Take Off.
Does anybody have any info on about a P.T.O. winch, suppliers, brands etc.
Regards
Bob

I have an Thomas Winch. They are built in
Australia
and popular with the military. I'm just rebuilding mine now. Very robust and simple.
Striped it down because it looked so bad on the outside from years of neglect. Turns out it's all fine anyway, but bearings etc are all commonly avaliable if needed.
I don't know if they're still trading, however they were popular on old Landrovers before the swicth in popularity to electric
winches
. Still see plenty secondhand for sale.
Do you have enough space to get a shaft from the PTO to the front of the vehicle?
Cheers
Ken

replied: www.andiline.com.au while not having much on their website, do have a large range of PTO's etc. Many PTO mounts are SAE fittings. A hydraulic winch would work well.
Better not talk about the fuel consumption of the 7.3L auto!

Fuel Consumption is not so bad as expected.
We just did Plenty , Tanami, Gibb RR, Gulf Road to Cairns and return to
Sydney
plus lots of side trips. Nearly all on dirt with some tracks as well.
Towing 3000 Kg (Bushtracker) and with 400 Kg on truck plus 200 Lt extra fuel av. for total trip was 21 .4 lt per 100K.(And I do not dawdle along)
Back to the winch. We are looking for a hydraulic PTOn not shaft drive
Regardsb Bob
