replied: Try www.getaway-equipment.com.au (tel: 9456-0452)- haven't personally used them so can't give you a recommendation but I picked up a brochure at the recent Sydney
camping
show. Safe travels.

replied: Dave, Satphones you can hire in Marree, Oodnadatta or Birdsville (from the local constabulry I think), check with www.transport.sa.gov.au Alternatively if you are coming through Adelaide, there is DesertAccess or Adventure 4WD that hire the type of equipment you are after, both of these are on www. Cheers, Dion.

replied: An
EPIRB
isn't an alternative to a HF or Satphone. The ability to communication my save your trip from ruin, whereas an
EPIRB
is designed to save your life. I carry a personal EPRIB as a backup to the HF incase of a failure during an emergency. I have been in situations where the use of an
EPIRB
would be inappropriate, but the HF has been the difference between a pleasant trip and an uncomfortable situation.
