Check out Prestige
Communications
website and yoou'll find heaps of info on UHF's. They are located in
Perth
, but will post anywhere in
Australia
for a small sum (around $5 - $10)
Prices here are really good compared to other
places
that you can find on the net. Give them a call. They are really helpful.

replied: I am getting a TX3400 fitted on Friday by outbacker and they advised me to fit a GME AE409L ariel it is a 6DB to 9DB. It is a spring steel one that comes in two pieces so when you are around town you can use it as a 6DB then when you go bush you just screw the other piece on and it is a 9DB. I spoke to the guys at opposite lock and that is what they run on their vehicles and they have not broken one yet.

replied: Dave,
not the cheapest option, but for quality and versatility, the GME 4700 series is good value. However really only suitable for bullbar mounting.
I use a 4705 antenna and base. Into that I can also use the larger 4706 antenna, but it does tend to lay back a bit at 110km/h, but good for slow desert work. You can also use all the smaller antenna's in the 4700 range, and you can use the AE409L antenna on the 4705/6 base.
I use this configuration for when I go shooting I can replace the big whita antenna's with the 409 in 6db set up which creates less of a target for wayward bullets.
Cheers,
Dion.

replied: Hi. Dave I have a TX4000 With a AE409L, have had it about 8 years & it is still going strong Has done the Simpson , Googs & the Border fence etc I have found that the 6dB gives the best range unless it is very flat. It was explained to me that the 9 dB is like high beam ,long and narrow & the 6 dB spreads out more like low beam, also being thin you don't even notice it in the front. Cheers "D"
