Brawn Winches
Submitted: Tuesday, Feb 04, 2003 at 13:46
Marty and Sam
Has anybody got a Brawn winch and if so what are they like. I am in the market for a winch and am trying to talk the other half into letting me by an electric one, at this stage she is only agreeing to a tirfor style winch because they are cheaper. I have priced up the Warn and OX
winches
and they came back at $1910 and $1775 but i have noticed that the Brawn
winches
are on special at the moment for around $1300 big difference. Also are they easy to fit, i have a winch compatible bar and i am capable of of doing it, but auto electrics are my downfall. Does anybody know if they are available in
Perth
and if so where.

Give him a call... :-)
Winch fitting is usually half dozen bolts, and wiring up to your battery,
+ cable and - cable put a cut out switch in the middle too worth it in the long run.!

replied: Yep, I just fitted a 9500lb Brawn. Had to make a special plate to boly it down as I do not have a modern winch-compatible bull bar. Electrics are simple but I do have an uncomplicated vehicle. The Brawn and the Ox Electric are the same. They are both rebadged T-Max
winches
with subtle differences in the electrics. Have not used it in anger yet but it souynds agressive. Ring Colin Pond on 03 9798 8522 and do a deal. The price is right. Cheers, W

Dont tell her, just come home with it on and see how long it takes her to notice.
Note: you will need heavier front springs too.

Thats what i did 4 weeks ago. WEnt out and bought a 2nd hand winch bar, raced home and fitted it and parked the car in the shed thinking she wont notice for a while. Then as i was carrying the alloy bar away to hide it she comes home early from work. Not happy Jan

the front of my gq dropped by an inch after fitted an electric winch and be careful about lift kits because they can sometimes cause front end vibrations when the hubs are locked in due to new and steeper tailshaft / uni joint angles....
i have got a little vibe myself with a 4" lift........
i fitted an X9 to the front of my winch-ready bar.......

LWB... The car was purchased from an older bloke who only towed his van twice a year. It has 100k on the clock.
Maybe the prob is from not using the front shaft much?...
It was fine before the lift kit.
Then as soon as the 4" went in.. "vibrations when the front hubs locked in".
Tried a 3 degree caster kit in the front diff.... No change at all..
Tried turning the front shaft around... No change at all..
Had the uni's checked at Adelaide Tailshafts.. No probs at all..
......................I'll beef hooked...................
