Any done Cape York

HI, We are thinking about travelling up to Cape York next April and was wondering if it was worth while - as it is still the wet season (well the end of it anyway). Has anyone done a similar trip at the same time? Did you come across any problems with travelling at his time? we would love to hear what you thought?

Hi Paul, You should be able to do sections but getting right to the tip would be unlikely. Doing the road conditions for the Cape this year, it only opened completely at the end of May/beginning of June but there were sections open earlier. Hard to predict. Good luck - Linda (ExplorOz)

Hi Paul,
I did the Cape OTL in the first couple of weeks of June '99. The track had only just opened. One of the big hurdles was crossing the Wenlock. We had to float our vehicle across on 44 gallon drums, however I believe the new bridge has been completed so you you won't have this problem. Some of the later crossing will probably be quite interesting though if you take the OTL. esp Nolans Brook.

Hi Paul & all !..No one can predict the weather up there can they?..In '89 we were booked with Guides To Adventure to leave Cairns 1st May,got phone call 24th April to say Wenlock got 2 flash storms & running 20feet.We then left 23rd May & still had to build a raft of 44gl drums to take our eleven(11) rigs over plus lots of others. Two weeks later on our return,we still had to use the raft. But we loved it.I have full video(edited/titled) if you need it.(Bridge over Wenlock now..Damm !)..Rgs Brian RockyOne (We had 1980 Diahatsu F50)

In July this year I had reports of Nolans still being 1.2 metres deep. If the road to the top was open by April you would most likely have to stay off the OTL and stick to the bypasses. But who knows what the weather will do next year?
