Christie generator

Hi,

I have the older model Christie generator I'm told the new 100amp unit is much quiter. Anybody know what the difference is, am I able to modify the older unit to bring down the noise???

RAY.. AS STATED IN A PREVIOUS THREAD TO-DAY, I HAVE THE 100AMP MODEL AND IT IS MUCH QUIETER THAN THE SMALLER MODEL. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THE 55 CANNOT BE UPGRADED, BUT RING SPRINGERS IN BRIS (07 3889 8898 ) AND THEY WILL BE ABLE TO TELL YOU.

The noise is about half way between the EU10 and the 55amp Christie set. I would say that they would not pass the sound regulations for a Nat. Park but as they are only running for an hour ( in my case once every three days) I just choose my time very carefully. Make sure that the Ranger has already been around and that nearly everyone else has gone walking/ fishing etc,( definately not sleeping). At Springers in Bris. I was able to compare the two sets for noise and the 100amp is considerably quieter. Sniff around and find someone who has one in a camp situation and like this site, most are willing to share their knowledge.

you can braze a downpipe from the 55 amp exhaust down into dirt or sand which makes it considerably quieter, but still not national park quiet. If in a national park best to use your jumper leads straight onto your battery and run your motor for half an hour or so if you have a battery that can take a high charge.

Paul.. I inquired about this and was told not to do it ( something to do with back pressure). They said it would not be good for the motor in the long run. Have you done this ?. If so how did it go and any ill effects on the motor.

I was at Springers last week and they have an exhaust pipe set up available for the 55amp model although I couldnt hear it runing because one connection was wrong on the set up. I can only assume that it would fit the 100 amp model as well. I will be trialing the 55amp model out over easter and will let you know the results then. I am looking at one to run my camper trailer battery back up when low..

I also have the older model and it is noisy. We travelled the GRR a couple of years ago and my dual battery controller failed so I had to use the Christie every day. Travelling companions (mainly my wife) objected to the noise so I just drove out of camp, found a good spot, settled down with a beer and a book, and let it rip for about an hour. Everybody was happy.
