Pathfinder Tyres

I have a 1998 Pathfinder - my only complaint is the tyre usage. The original Bridgestone Dulers lasted 20000 kms, the second set of tyres Yokohama Geolanders lasted about 25000 kms, and now I have Coopers fitted - so far 20000, and maybe another 20000 kms (we shall see). Type of travel is 5000 kms a year around the city (local only) and 15000 on long trips (maybe 25% gravel). I wonder what other Pathfinder owners get out of their tyres. Mechanically and as far as where it can be taken, it is excellent.

My parents own the same vehicle and had a lot of probs with tyres, chased around Nissan, they said it was a tyre prob, Bridgestone said it was mechanical in the end we went to the ACCC and it went to court I believe as we only got 10000Kms out of the original tyres.
They ruled in our favour and Nissan had to cough up for 2 brand new tyres as it had something to do with the setup of the vehicle combined with the super soft compound of the original tyre which was put on to make it feel comfortable during test drives.
We now have BFG all terrains which are fine.

I am amazed to read your comments regarding tyre usage on your pathfinder. I have a 2000 Ti and at 22,000 klms can hardly notice the wear factor on the original Bridgestone Dwellers. Mind you I mostly drive on the blacktop and occasionally venture onto formed tracks and lots of sand.

Maybe it might have something to do with your tyre presssures? The manufacturer recommends around 26-28psi but in talking with the local Bridgestone dealer was told to run them at 38psi.

What type of fuel economy do you get out of your Pathy. My City cycle is arounf 16.5 L/100 and on sand around 22.0 L/100. I'm alaways looking for ways to improve fuel usage.

I would be interested in your feedback.

I also am amazed at the tyre wear, I have 1999 ti with the oringial BS HT Duelers and its done 32500km tyres are about 1/2 to 2/3rds down. rotated and balanced 7 times, slight adj to toe in on R/H front recently. Tyre pressures 26 to 28 around town/off road/highway, 28 front 32 rear for highway towing 1600kg caravan.....

next set of tyres will be the new BS D693 or BFG ATs

I own a 2000 Pathfinder with 38,000km on the clock and find it hard to believe such poor tyre wear on your vehicle. I do 50% in the city, 30% long haul and the rest hard 4WD'ing. I used the original Bridgestone Duelers to 25,000 (rotated once)and they look like they would do easily 50,000. I run 32psi normally, 26psi off road and 35-38 under heavy loads/long distance. The Nissan recommendations are stupid and invite plenty of tyre wear. You also have to consider your own driving style as it is a major factor. How have you done historically with other vehicles.

There is probably a slight difference in geometry & also tyres between the 1998 RX and the Ti, as well as with the latest model. I do not know how yout 2000 model compares with mine. My originals were Bridgstone Dueler H/T 689 - (215SR15). Also, with mine, on slow speed cornering (say at a STOP sign), I frequently have a squealing rear tyre as the LSD takes effect. I am not a fast driver.
