I have mounted a stalk criuse control on my GQ, took a little while to get used to as had been using button controls on Fairmont but after a while it grows on you. Now I just set & forget for long trips. works fine for me

The dealer has quoted $695 installed for the stalk. When I made phone enq's with an installer in Adelaide (I live about three hours away), they quoted about $650. I don't get to Adelaide that often so I will probably pay the extra to get it done here. I'm not sure how much extra for the pad.

Was able to mount the buttons on the steering wheel are la Fairlane style. I believe there is some problem with the design of GUIII steering wheels which might mean fitting the stalk type unless Autron have designed a new button cluster..

Hi Votlip, If you get a 4.2, the cruise is free on the current model, basically the same output but you get a far more reliable engine, (oooppps), now that may start something, The new 4.2 still has the same mechanical pump as the last model GU andis lubricated by the engine oil. Pumps are a problem in the 3L, if you get a doctored load of fuel, and someone mentioned a while back that the air flow meter is $1200 if it gets contaminated with dust or foriegn matter. My 4yo GU ,4.2 has clocked over 260,000 ks and has never missed a beat. One more point, if you are doing a lot of freeway driving, 100ks plus the diff ratio is lower, raising the noise level higher than the 4.2.. My thought only Cheers Michael

Having used both button type and stalk type cruise controls I have would strongly recommend the stalk.

The stalk allows you to totally control the CC without moving your hands at all from the driving postion on the steering wheel. Its a matter of just flicking your fingers in the right direction!

I would hate to go back to a button system.

I fittetted a command auto pilot with stork and am very happy with it
it was about $350 from memory (self fitted)
they have a new model out now that mounts on the steering wheel like the factory ones must be infra-red (cordless)
I think they were about $700 but dont know if that was fitted or not.

Have just picked up a 79 series tojo, fitted with Command cruise. It is on a stalk, and I thought it was genuine, until tried to use it, then had to resort to the directions. As the ute is turbo, the cruise matches well to 'drive by wire" set up.

Have done over 5K clicks, with no problems, and it seems to be pretty accurate, even in undulating country. Has been handy over the past couple of weeks, with double points and hefty fines for exceeding the speed limits, in Qld.

My 2003 GU fly by wire was quoted by nissan at $850 but i paid $700. Un fortunately the guy scratched the dash etc in the process.

I din and the clowns fitted it off centre on the steering wheel and indicator light off centre too, when I complained i was told i'm fussy, I had the coast clutch resume feature fitted and it didnt work so I took the car straight to the manufacturer and they fixed it for me, they are not too impressed with installer.

Cobra Car Alarms install them as well so go there.

Done a few thousand klms now and love it , if I had a turbo diesel I would get the clutch resume again its great.

I've had the storks before and wouldnt have one again, the steering wheel mounted buttons are much easier to use especially when you want to increase or decrease your speed by one klm at a time you just tap the buttons up or down, no twisting or turning knobs.

Cost me $690 fitted and for an extra $120 you can get three resume buttons on the wheel aswell.

I have had both and reckon the the pad on the steering wheel is the way to go, but everyone has there own opinions.As regards to buying the 4.2 over the 3litre because it comes with a cruise control what would you rather spend $850 on getting one fitted to the 3lt or $7000 more for the 4.2 because it comes standard, you dont have to be a scientist to work that one out. By the way i am on my second 3lt and have not had any problems at all with either of them very reliable enough power to tow a fully loaded double horse float every weekend for hours on end and very good fuel economy, technology is wonderfull but obviously some people will never be convinced and think the bigger the better.

I had the Nissan Dealer organise the cruise control (fitted today) on a 3L Auto ST Patrol. The brand is Autron. Cost me $660 (includes GST).

Buttons are on the steering pad.

I have another car that has the stork type control & another with the steering pad buttons. Bottom line is you get used to both types.

Thanks for your quick responses and opinions. I have had C/Control for the last two years on my Commodore (factory fitted) and wouldn't be without it. I will probably get the installer to show me where both get fitted and see which one looks the best. I agree with Phil, I think you get used to whatever you have. I wasn't sure if anyone knew of any problems with either.

My wife said that she isn't that interested in getting C/Control as she doesn't use it. I don't know where she got the idea that she would be driving it! ;)

I chose the pad (auscruise) in the end, it sits between the spokes on the rhs of the steering wheel in the same place as the factory fitted, and it fits in very nicely. The stalk looked good, but with indicator and wiper controls there was enough sticking out already. Seems to work fine and cost $695.

Ive got a 4.2 td Nissan ( check out the pic,s ) with Auscruise fitted . The pad is the way to go . It sits under your left hand , inbetwen the spoaks . The only thing , i feel that its upside down . you,ll see what i mean , once you get use,d to that , its grate .You don,t have to take your hand off the wheel ,you don,t have to look down , you can do it all by feel and its quite unobtrusive , unlike a stork would be . I woudn.t be without it now .
