GU Patrol front end woes
Submitted: Friday, Dec 22, 2000 at 00:00
Russell
This may be a can of worms but has anyone else had steering wobble problems with GU Patrols on split rims. Local Nissan dealer says only Patrols with factory wide rims have problems. If so, my car is confused coz it wobbles like a b*****d at 80 - 90 kmh. Yes Ive tried every conceivable tyre pressure and methods of wheel balancing. Im running Bridgestone 661s 235/16. 98 model GU with 65ks, 2.8 I-C Turbo, lightly loaded.

replied: Russel, I have read in one of the 4wd Magazines about GU Patrol Wheel wobble trouble. Apparently Nissan has come up with a fix so go back and see your local Nissan dealer again. It sounds like your Nissan Dealer has tried to put you in the too hard basket.

replied: have just put on bfg 265/75R t/a ko on my 98 GU. Got 53000 out of originals. dealer directed me to Quick Fit Wobbled at first, took them back and they spent about 3 hours on them and got them fairly right. It is a problem that you live with. Would love to hear of any other problems you are having with your 2.8.

replied: Russell, I have had a similar experience with my 98 GU 4500.
Two Nissan dealers could not rectify the problem.
I had the
tyres
checked and they were out of round. A fairly common problem apparently.
Another problem that I have found is with the front left wheel. I have gone through 4 wheel alignments, multiple tyre rotations but the front left tyre scrubbs out on the outside edge. (Was told by the dealer that I would only get approximately 25K out of a set of new
tyres
anyway) What an idiot!
The problem was fixed by Pro Axle with an adjustable king pin.
