Article Overview - HF Radio Installation
In this article, we discuss the procedures for installing a HF radio and the modifications that can be considered for a successful installation. View Full Article...
Hi All, there has been a lot of info around concerning how to eliminate the engine noise in HF radio from new electronic engines. I was advised by Austek communications in Cairns to fit 3 Ferrite suppression sleeves side by side to the spill valve control unit cable.
It appears I havn't got the engine noise any more. Only tested out front at home I will do more testing and post again with results. Fingers crossed.
I own a 79 series L/C 2006 TD. Today I fitted the Ferrite suppressors from Jaycar Electronics (model u25, page 134 of Catalog) as I said 3 side by side along the cable close to the unit. Stay tuned for further updates !!!
Just my experiance

Hi time waster, I'm no expert, don't know where the unit is located in a hilux,in my LC tray it is a black box approx 120mm x 120mm attached to the L/H guard in the engine bay has a loom coming out of it that goes across to the side of the engine and into the fire wall.I think it has something to do with the fuel management ???
not sure. As i said in my post when I was in Cairns I spoke to a tech at Austek who was very helpfull and showed me where to put the supressors didn't actually go into details about what the black box did, only said that it would make an improvement, so far test at home it appears that the noise has gone ????
When I get a chance I will test further out of town. My mate has a NGT in his Stnd 100 series LC and when I park next to him his radio picks up my engine noise it will be interesting to see what happens now. Here is the Ph No for Austek 07 40355544 ask for Warren (Tech) he is very helpfull. Hope this helps ?? ( clear as mud I supose !!)
Good luck
Barry

I've posted solutions on this problem before. I sincerely hope that your solution ends your problems.
Be sure to check on ALL the important frequencies that you use, as sometimes solutions can be frequency selective.

No worries I'll try and send some photos give us a day or two, "Be warned I'm technically challenged" !! Not sure how photos will turn out, I had to move unit as I have fitted a duel Battery system and unit is mounted on side of battery tray.
Not a lot of room under the bonnet for mods in a 79 series, for photos I'll give it my best shot the suppressors are actually under the battery tray.
Cheers
