Ok troops - looks like I am getting my first 4B but the 97 Landcruiser does not have a snorkel fitted. The vehicle has a 2" lift kit already so was wondering if I should install a snorkel or not.

Plan on the Cape next year and some westerly stuff outta Cairns.

Your help would be appreciated although some reckon I am beyond help!

Save your money If the water is so deep you need a snorkel its too deep. As for dust I would rather clean my filter regularly than spend $400 and drill a 100mm whole in the guard with future rust problems. No snorkel on my car and there never will be.

I had my 60 series for over a year playing in mudholes with no snorkel, and had no issues. However I was always conscious of it and went cautiously through some places where it would have been better to have a snorkel and carry momentum through.

If you have the money to do it, and you're concerned about it, then just do it. One less thing to worry about. If you don't, then don't drive anywhere your engine might suck in water.

There's also people that do water crossings with no snorkel, but a front tarp and a bow wave, but that's not something I would like to try.

I don't have lockers or a winch fitted... so I *try* not to go places where I will need them. Basically comes down to driving within the capabilities of you and your vehicle, until you make one or the other or both more capable.

Hi Crazy Dog,
If your going to get a snorkel, go with a stainless steel custom one- 100mm diameter. They are cheaper, they seal alot more than a factory snorkel and are cheaper.

I put on a Safari snorkel, the original, fantastic plastic, and it is thick and wont look dent if hit by a stone.
They are easily fixed, if needed to be.
Never had a problem

A bit of Armour All and it looks as good an new.
Love it !

Dosen't matter I guess, as long as it works, and is sealed.
