Just take the bypass road. No dramas or good 4wding, and your teeth will chatter all the way on the worse corrugations this sude of the Tanami, but you'll get there. BTW...No dramas in the dry.....wet is a different matter.

Stephen, as the first reply says yes, you can just drive up the Developmental Track but the problem there is although it is not technically difficult, it is harsher on your vehicle due to the extreme corrugations. Many people have MORE problems on this track because of it. Consider it carefully.

Stephen, 6 years ago we did the telegraph track up and the bypass on the way back, the telegraph track was the better one, if slower. We did it in a 93 Mistsubishi L300 (the same one that has just survived Cape Melville) and there was only one vehcile - providing you take things slowly and check the creek crossings and are careful you should be able to make it. We know of one couple who did it in a L300 1985 model in 1995 and got through with no problems. We have found as long as you go in the middle of the dry season most 4 WD have already paved the way.

Ok, thanks everyone. It seems that the "chicken run" is not the best option, and a trip like the one described in the Exploroz trek notes may be the way to go. Are the corrugations any better early in the season?
