Hi all,
New to this so bare with me. I have a 3 ltr turbo Patrol fitted with a smart bar. I am about to mount driving lights on the front in preparation for the big trip with the family. I have found some threaded holes behind the bar that appear to be for brackets to hold the lights. I'm interested to hear from those who have mounted lights on a Smart Bar. It would appear that there might be some movement. Is that correct and if so what can I do to stabilise them?

Morning I have the same rig with a smart bar with couple of cheap Narva light mount on the brackets supplied did a trip round Aus in 2005 they have never moved .

Thanks, that backs up the information I just got from the NSW supplier of the bar. I have ordered the brackets. See how they go.........

Hi,
I have a Smart Bar, its an older one and is for a different vehicle, so it may not be the same as yours.

On mine, there are two metal plates that have 3 holes of which two fit over the threaded holes. Two bolts should be used to hold the metal plate to the Bar.

I had to drill a hole where the 3rd hole of the metal plate was. The bolt for driving lights was then put through the hole and was done up from inside the Smart Bar. Don't forget to use spreader washers and nyloc or similar nuts on the inside to minimise the chance of the bolts coming loose.

Access to the inside of the Smart Bar is via a hole behind the Registration plate.

While I only have the Night Stalker Roo Lights (copy of Lightforce), I get minimal vibration of the lights so I am quite happy with the arrangement.

Got the same setup with Lightforce 170's...no worries, very stable, but they are very light units.

Same here with my set up for the Cruiser - I have had my Smartbar and Narva lights and UHF Aerial for about 5 years now and none of the attachments have moved.

My IPF spots on the Triton came fitted without spring washers, and the lights moved heaps. I just took off the number plate and squeezed my hand in the moulded hole and fitted washers with a ring spanner. End of problem.
