Gday all , as some of you might already know i have just sold my 4.2 TD GU wagon and am now in the process of purchasing a GU ute, today i was offered a 2002 GU DX ute with 4.2 N/A diesel for what i think is a fairly reasonable price, 160000 klms, canopy on back, winch bar and new bridgestone
tyres
basically same as what was in my wagon minus winch and UHF...for $22000.00...do you think this sounds ok ?? and also as i would be wanting to add a turbo to it how much would i be looking at , and also what type of turbo do people recomend. Cheers........Dave

Price sounds okay I guess as long as it's in really good nick.
As far as turbo's go, I had a real good job done by the blokes at Berri Diesel, when I had my 4.2TD and upgraded the turbo to a Schwitzer kit (the
Denco
set-up).
The good part AFAIConcerned, was that they allowed me to hang around and watch what they did and they included me in the testing process (taking it for a drive down the Loxton road about 4 times). After each test (with the EGT and Boost gauges being read by the boss in the passenger's seat), he would get back and tweak the boost and/or fuel pump etc until he was satisfied he had it set to the optimum level.
He was talking about getting a dyno (back in 2005), but I don't know whether he ever did. He had a number of standard Nissan turbos sitting in a box; there were a good number of buyers in the area who would swap the turbo over in a brand new Patrol.
Cheers
Roachie

I have a 95 GQ wagon and added a turbo to it January 2006. Including the purchase, fitting, injector service and a engine service, about $4500 from memory..... may have been a little closer to $5000. Bought the kit from Turbo-Glide in Russellvale, NSW, I think it is a Garrett turbo. I really only wanted the turbo for towing our trailer, but it makes it a joy to drive when not towing as well. Can certainly recommend it.
Cheers
Brian

replied: Best to find out if your gearbox has the 5th gear spline upgrade first. There is a current post about it somewhere. Otherwise the extra power might make it go bang.
