Cape York emergency ph. numbers

Submitted: Sunday, Jun 01, 2003 at 07:24

Tony James

I'm travelling to Cape York soon and have a sat phone for emergency use. Main area of concern is when we're on our way to or at Bathurst Bay and Palmer River Gold Fields. Does anyone know the phone number for the Flying Doctor service that I should use or maybe the nearest SES (or QLD's equivilant). The numbers would be used incase of serious injury/accident/illness.

Any other phone numbers that I should have?

I don't want to enter a debate of the merits of HF radio versus sat phone please. A sat phone was kindly offered to me so that is what I have got.

TIA

Tony, some of the Hema maps list the most important numbers for the area of map coverage in a box called phone directory. I am not sure if the current 'Cape' map has this feature, but it might be worth checking.

May also be worth taking a list of all the police stations on the cape as well as Cairns.
