I see on the WA Main Roads website that the Gibb River Rd is still closed between Mt Barnett and
Home Valley
Station. The Pentecost is listed as "500ml" - is that meant to be 500mm, or 50cm?
Kimberley road conditions
We're going to be in the area in about 3 weeks - is it likely that the road is just still being brought up to scratch post wet season at this time of year?
cheers

replied: Yeah it would be 500ml deep which is nothing to worry about as it fows all year round and it doesnt drop much under that really. As for the condition of the road i dont think that it would of been graded yet and there was a lot of rain across the whole area this year so it would be in pretty bad shape. Its best not travelling straight afet its been graded as the grader seems to slice up alot or sharp rocks and it results in alot of flats . your best bet would be to Ring the Shire of
Wyndham
East
Kimberley
,
El Questro
Station or
Home Valley
station to find out the condition of the road and if or when its been graded. And as for it being closed between Mt Barnett and
Home Valley
im not sure why that would be as the Pentecost is only bout 50kms from the Great Northern Highway so it cant be due to the Pentecost. Special tip, Pentecost is home to many a Barra and they are easily caught just one hundred metres down from the crossing. Watch out for the crocs though as there are plenty around and they arent shy.

Thanks. Our itinerary has us at the Pentecost around about the 14th of May - hopefully it's passable by then or we might have to modify our trip plans.
