Torsion Bar front ends.

Can you lighten the front end of a torsion bar vehicle and still maintain the ride hight. Will putting heavy duty shocks on the front take the jar out of the front end?

The vehicle is a suburban 2500 and is designed for heavy loads. Obviously the suspension is very stiff. I would like to soften it up a bit without sacrificing my ride height. The backs not a problem I have that figured as it's leaf spring.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

You can get different weight torsion bars, this is probably something to look at as these would as you say be designed for heavy stuff..

You would be amazed at how much effect a shocker has on spring function. I would suggest a change to Rancho 9000's which will give you a huge adjustment range of settings to try out. That may be all you need to do to get it to ride more supple. Torsion bars are very limited in their ability to be "lightened", and unless somebody markets a new bar in the States, I think you may be pushing the proverbial uphill.
