Prado diesel consumption

Just got my new Prado turbo diesel. Had 2 petrol models before and am expecting better economy. Wondering if anyone has figures for theirs?

Is it the KZ-T or KZ-TE engine? I've got an older KZ-T engine in a '94 4runner and running most of the time at about 2100kgs GVW (max is 2510) I get 8KM/L (23mpg), but alot of this is fast(ish) motorway, averaging 65 mph over the longer runs.

I have a 2002 GXL TD with auto transmission & 32,000 klms, around town 11 lts per 100 klm, towing my Jaco Finch outback camper (around 1,100kg loaded) on a trip to Cairns recently (sitting on 100 klm's) 14 lts per 100 klm.

Whilst I am happy with the fuel economy this benefit quickly disappears when you have to change the engine oil every 5,000 klm's.

Is yours auto? How have you found the engine braking (or lack of).

Hi Truckster, not quite right about auto and no engine braking, used to think the same as yourself till i went up the creb track with a mate who has the 3 litre auto rodeo he had to accelerate in low low on the steepest of the grades of the track to keep going he has always been a manual man and was very impressed with the breaking power, but i will stay with my blower and manual box. Thanks all for your replies. Yes I know about the lack of engine braking with an auto. I have had two manual 4wds and this is my third auto. For the occasional lack of engine braking on very steep tracks in the high country I usually apply some controlled force to the brake pedal and enjoy all the benefits of auto in so many other situations.
From the figures given it would seem I'm in for some great savings at the fuel pump!! Thanks a lot.
