Gary Highway - Warburton to the Junction

We're thinking of a trip from Warburton, onto the gunbarrel and then north on the gary to the junction and then across to Marble Bar. Anyone done it recently? Given the weather is it passable? Info on conditions (road, firewood camping) would be appreciated. Thanks.
