Over heating troopy HJ 75 series

Stephen

I Have put in a brand new radiator Largest that will fit, thermostat (12months ago), a pressure check done. Does any one have the same problem and how did you fix it.

We owned a Troopy and never had the thing raise a sweat ever.When you over-heat what are you doing i.e. after an hour on the highway, in 4WD off road going slow etc?This information may be helpfull in finding an answer.RegardsDavid

I do have a Twine shower system fitted. I have had this problem for the last 12 months long before the shower. The problem happens when I go up a substancial hill with slow corners that take away my momentum. Off road driving doesn't seem to be a problem.

Had similar problem in an 80 series....spent a bleep load of money on a new copper rad only to find ( after the rad was ripped up and thrown out ) that the Viscous Fan was the problem! ( It had all been checked out at the local Toyota dealer who passed all systems)

I will have a look at the viscous fan. I have had three radiator specialists including Natrad look at the cooling system and they the fan is operating correctly but I will have a closer look.

Stephen check some of your local 4WD mechanics about adding some clutch fluid to the fan hub. It isn't hard and shouldn't be expensive or if your handy with tools do it yourself. The clutch fluid is approx $10.00 per tube from Toyota dealers

Had the same problem with my troopy in recent years and after having more oil added to the viscous clutch fan by Toyota (which didn't work at all) I replaced the viscous clutch with an aftermarket one (made in Japan) from Repco.
I had done the whole radiator replacement bit and whist it was near due it made no difference.

Sounds like you have found no answer. I am not going to let this beat me as by looking on this site other car manufacturers have the same problem if and when I find an answer I will let you know.

If you have eliminated all the obvious overheatihg causes,radiator,fan clutch,thermostat,water pump impellor,try these-scaled up internal water jacket of engine,conbustion leek from head or head gasket,restricted air flow due to bull bar winch or driving lights and last but not least injector pump timing and auto advance.Difficult to solve ovarheating problems are much more common in 1HZ engines than 2H. Ummm, sound very much like my problem 20 years ago with my old cruiser. I ended up getting a tropical kit for it. Don't know if they are available for your model. The dealer did not know what i was on about but as luck would have it I happened to have a parts book, hard copy one. The vehicle was ex gov. The kit fixed my problem and I was living in Alice at the time.
