replied: Travelled this road Oct 99. Is now fully sealed.
Great trip, Karumba has many camp sites but will need to book as every man and his dog heads up there for winter. Contact RACQ or your relevent club

John OGORMAN
replied: Kevin, I am a Police Inspector stationed in Cairns and I travelled the road from Cairns to Karumba last June (beautiful time of the year to travel up here.) The road is sealed all the way but there are numerous (very numerous) reasons to leave the main road and have a look at everything!!! There are a fairly large number of road trains using the road but if you use your UHF CB wisely, you wilkl get full co-operation from the road train drivers. Without trivialising the trip, there is not much difficulty in it these days, but it is a great, rewarding and (very) popular trip.

John OGORMAN
replied: Kevin, Sorry about that!!! I didnt address your question re
fishing
and
camping
spots. Unfortunately, I havent done any
fishing
or
camping
in that area as my travelling in the area has been mostly work-related (except for day trips or overnighters - so far. A situation I am trying very hard to rectify. If you contact the various 4wd clubs around Cairns, I am sure they will assist.
