Simpson Desert Fuel consumption

I am planning to do the Simpson Desert trip in winter this year. I have a 2.8 GU patrol and am wondering if anyone has completed the trek in such a vehicle. If so, I am interested in any comments about fuel consumption crossing the Simpson. I would also be interested in general, what decrease in mileage to expect on the trip by other vehicles.

JIM I CROSSED THE SIMPSON WITH A GQ 4.2 DIESEL WITH 4 JERRY CANS AND FOUND I HAD PLENTY. THE PATROL WAS FULLY LADEN, 4 PASSENGERS AND SUPPLIES. HAVE A GREAT TIME. EDWIN

We crossed the simpson via the french line in 98 in a turbo diesel troopy and a 4.2 diesel Gq Nissan. both loaded well and used about 75 litres each Birdsville to Dalhouse Springs. We were lucky & had damp sand almost all the way.
Returning 2 weeks later very hot & dry we used about 120litres Mt Dare to Birdsville.

i have a landrover discovery TDI. from Birdsville to alice (via old andado) i averaged 12.5L per 100kms. found the crossing very easy. travelled from E-W. around town i average about 10
