replied: According to a few that tow that are on the GQ patrol list they have no issues towing trailers at all...
Bit more info on the car, Stock tires, stock engine, exhaust etc??
They are thirsty as hell, but yea usually good when towing.
Have you had it serviced or done anything to it since you got it?

replied: 4.2 Maverick LWB so sort of the same - depending on the gradient and length of hill then maybe a change back a gear is not too much of a problem. Most times I manage to keep mine and the trailer going ok up around 90-100km/hr. Anyway there are no hills in WA - come to think of it there are no hills in Aust. West of Wagga. As for economy - currently getting 7l/100km out of my Corolla around town - you don't buy a 4WD for economy, even on gas they use plenty. They are a basic 4WD but you won't have too many problems - just remember, it really is just a little truck - so once you can get your head around that notion life seems to be ok. rgds

replied: Welcome to the club, I have had my gas powered Troll for a few years now it still suprises me just how slow it is up hills and you should try towing a racecar. Having said that the thing just keeps on going! I think all you can do is just sit back and enjoy views.(you will have plenty of time!)

Should have added that I have stock engine and 10r15s, standard exhaust no extractors(are they worth trying anybody?) and an after market ignition system.

Bozo,
Extractors will always make a difference, I put them on my GQ before I put the turbo on.The engine breathes easier.

Maybe worth while checking your air filter is clean as well, couple of dusty trips soon effect the economy and performance. Everything helps a little bit , I don't think you are going to find some magical solution to the economy / power issue unless you buy something different. My mates petrol GQ hovers around the 22 litres/ 100 when he gets excited, he fitted the Unichip system to his engine that made a significant difference and improved the economy. I don't have any experience with a petrol GQ myself.Keep the shiny side up
