Pajer Turbo Diesel

Can anyone help me with information on the turbo diesel Pajero's?
I am interested in the 2000 and later models.
I am particularly looking for information on the following;
General reliability/common problems.
Fuel econemy or likely performance.
How does it really compare with cars like patrol and prado for touring and medium off road work. I will be looking to do a trip into the Kimberelys towing a
camping
trailer in the near future.
Any information provided will be appreciated. I currently have a petrol 62 series landcruiser and I am looking for something more car like since this is 90% of the travelling I will be doing. ie. on road. I also tow up to around two tonne.
Thanks

The last of the 2.8 L came out in 2000 the 2.8 was reliable with very few problems but it would be strugling with 2 tonne. the later DID will be much more powerful but it is cruel to tow 2tonne with it, as fore of road ability the excelent diff locks in pajeros more than compensate for the slighly reduced
suspension
travel.

Thanks, I only tow 2 tonne for short distances the longer distance towing I do is around the 900kg to 1300kg so I think this will be OK.
I have just read an article where the total power to weight ratio of car and trailer is similar to landcruiser and patrol with a 1500KG load ( this I think is mainly due to the lesser weight of the Pajero.it actually had more torque /tonne than the patrol) ie.103.6 Nm/t for pajero 99.13 Nm/t for Patrol. the cruiser was fractionally more. Thought I'd mention it for interest sake.
I think I would be Ok if I go for the later and more powerful motor.
Thanks for your comments.
