Bonz (Vic) replied:

They work well in sand, I have seen a Nissan Patrol hooked up to one via the front wounted winch being dragged forward. In sand especially they just bite in deeper.

All the best, try John Webster for the best price and mention Geoff Barby referred you onto him, might be worth a dollar or two off.

How many people do you see with them??

about 1:200?
I dont think they are needed for the places you mentioned, how many thousand people go to Fraser etc and never need one? Including Toorak Tractors!

$500 seems a little pricey to save you the hassle of digging a hole or two a year.
