4x4 Nutter - 4WD & Cars that I have owned
Submitted: Sunday, Oct 12, 2008 at 09:52
Over the years some of us go through cars like underwear, some hold on to one Car. I am the underwear fellow. Not all the cars I have owned have ended up with a picture taken, but the other day I thought, 'why not share the ones that did' and show how a person becomes a 4x4 nut from once being a hoon. I could have been both, well maybee I still am!
You start out as hoon when you are a
young
lad and though this is not my first car, (that being a 69 Valliant slant 225) it was one of the best.
Holden Monaro SS 1971 186s
I worked the Motor around some and came up with this beast
Tripple 2" Sidedraft Webbers
From there a hoon progresses to a V8 and what better than in a Holden Sin Bin, BOY THAT THING WENT
1974 Holden worked 308 - 650 double pumper
Then life moves on and you get married, the missus can not drive a bommed 308, so sell that off and we start in the 4x4 world. We drop from a fully blown 308 to my first 4x4, a Suzuki LJ50 550cc of awsome off road ability.
Suzuki tackling the mud
We had more fun and frills in that than any speed could give. The LJ50 Went some awsome places as a couple more track photos from this car show.
Between the Rocks
Thats a track mud and more mud
Times move on and a few standard cars later, we had to get back into a suzuki LJ50 4 x 4.

Boy we had fun in that one on the sandhills where Ocean Reef in WA now is. We were committed to the frill and had to do more play on those sandhills, so we upgraded to and LJ80. It ate those sandhills and outdid every other 4 x 4 in club events.
LJ80 on a A Frame
This was a great car, we had heaps of fun in 4x4 Clubs in WA and then we towed this across
Australia
before ending up in FNQ.
A lot of water under the bridge and we owned a couple of old ex army Land Rovers while living near Cairns. We then moved to the Gulf and
Normanton
and back into the Suzuki mode. This time a powerful, (well comparied to the others)1ltr Model
Suzuki 1ltr Fun Machine
We moved on to a Lancruiser Troopy from here but never recorded that one. The troopy did the full on bullbust drives from
Normanton
- North, BULLDUST LIKE YOU DO NOT SEE THESE DAYS. Then it was time to go around OZ for the first time and we did that with this Toyota V6 Forerunner. THAT WAS A SERIOUSLY GREAT CAR to drive.

Though It was a bit heavy on the juice. From here it was on to Cooktown and we owned a Nissan 6cyl Petrol Station Wagon. This car made light work of the Coast Road from Cairns back when it was a 4x4 track. Then we moved to an old Hilux 2ltr ute, a bit ordinary that was. Then came the time when camping and travelling was top of the list, so along came the first serious camping rig. We did a lot in this Cruiser and it was all good stuff.

Cruiser ready to go
Thats nearly the end of the this car journey up to date, but I have a couple more before I end. I then moved to the Tablelands and family came first. We got into this Holden Jackaroo V6 to move some people around for a while. Another vehicle with good 4 x 4 capabilities.
The Jackaroo v6
Soon all the kids leave home and we moved into our current Rig the Holden Rodeo, back to do the serious travelling and
camping
again now. Whats next? We will have to wait and see! Thats all folks! Hope you enjoyed the trip of a car nutter. Cheeers Tony
