Week 2 in Kalgoorlie
Submitted: Sunday, Apr 13, 2008 at 22:45
The gold pouring demo was a big hit
Well yet another week has passed for us here in Kal. Great weather, met some more nice people, and did a tour to the Mining Hall of Fame. The underground tour was the highlight for us on the day, with many other things along the way that took our fancy.
We travelled NE of Kalgoorlie earlier in the week for 4 nights and spent 2 of them on the northern end of Lake Yindarlgooda. First night we watched a huge storm pass by us about 15k's to the Nth, and the second night we had some very strong winds that pushed the canvas on the Southerncross Camper to the limit! Awoke next morning to a great day and saw some rather large looking chooks (emus), having a morning stroll across the lake edge.
The 2 nights out on the lake edge were terrific, very scenic, and the colours were just amazing. Right in front of our camp was a large old puddler and mine shaft, and a furthe 2 k's up the track was some evidence of an old miners camp from the last century. Jodie cooked a very tasty roast in the old furphy camp oven a few nights ago, as it was the first time we'd lit a fire since leaving home, as it had just been way to warm for us to bother previously. We had a drive Sth of Kalgoorlie today, looking for some new gold bearing areas, and saw some more of this great side of the country, the colours are just simply amazing! Also saw one of the large D10 dozers being transported this morning on a low loader, struth! they are big up close! anyway, we head Nth after one more week here in Kal, and we are looking forward to every minute of being
on the road
agin between towns as the country here is just terrific. Take care to all Unc & Jodie
