Well here is another short update from us here at Hillside Station. Last Monday saw the Variety club of WA ,bash it’s way into Hillside Station for a well earned lunch. Our day started very early with Jodie and the girls in the kitchen cooking up some delicious home made pumpkin soup and some fresh hot Pilbara roast beef rolls for the hungry 200 plus bashers.
Everything went down very well on the day and at about 12.15 saw the first clouds of dust from our great vantage points up on top of the cattle crates. The dust could be seen as far away as 10k, which gave us a good indication of the vehicles heading towards the station for their lunch. Once the first cars arrived and settled in for the hot roast beef rolls, the short and tall stories started to flow from all directions.
The Variety club had their ownR44 chopper, which is the next size up from the smaller mustering choppers we use here the R 22. A few guys had paid a fee to have a ride in it, and from all reports the view was just spectacular. Once lunch was nearly over, we got to have a good chat to a few of the bashers, about their cars and some running repairs that had been done by the roadside along the way. They have their own full, volountary mechanics set up with a big van that was well equipped to handle any sort of repair that may be needed here in the outback. Hillside’s tyre service was on standby, but wasn’t needed. (wheeew). Once lunch was over the cars headed off along the road to Bonney Downs, which is like a dirt hwy at present, and slipped into Nullagine for a long cold beer at the Hotel. I think they ended up at the caravan park for accomodation on the night, and according to some of the boys from here at the station ,it was a HUGE one!! Anyway, until our next update, happy travels to you all and take care on the roads. Unc & Jodie.
