Certain tracks are closed each wet to prevent the tracks being damaged and also to avoid people getting bogged. It also allows Park Rangers the opportunity to undertake repairs and to improve the 4WD Tracks ability to withstand erosion. The tracks will be re-opened in time for the 2007 dry season.

The entrance gate to Kakadu National Park is located just 168km from Darwin, but it is a large park requiring at least one overnight stay. Read our Kakadu Trek Note for detailed information. Access to Kakadu from Darwin is via the Stuart Highway, Arnhem and Kakadu Highways - all of which are sealed and generally remain open throughout the year. Wet season flooding associated with prolonged heavy rains cause temporary closures. Other roads within Kakadu, such as access to campgrounds, waterholes and walking tracks are unsealed and may become inaccessible for periods of time during the wet season (Oct - May).

Twin Falls	Closed	Twin Falls and the Jim Jim Barrk Malam Walk will also close. The boat shuttle through the gorge with cultural guide commentary will cost $12.50 per adult; children under 16 years travel free. The shuttle operates every day. The first boat shuttle departs at 7.30am. with departures at least every half hour until 4pm. The last returning shuttle leaves the gorge at 5pm. The boat shuttle is the only access to the Twin Falls Gorge and leads to a marked walking track through the Gorge to the base of Twin Falls. Visitors should allow about two hours return for the boat trip and walk. The first section of the walk, approximately 70 metres, is of a moderate grade and ends at a shady area where there is a good view of the falls. The remainder of the walk is suitable for people who are fit and can manage uneven terrain. Tickets for the guided boat shuttle should be purchased before travelling to Twin Falls Gorge and can be purchased at many locations in Kakadu. Twin Falls - Jim Jim Creek Crossing	Closed	Construction of a new underwater bridge over the Jim Jim Creek crossing is now commencing on 1st October 2007. There will be some impact on visitors to the area, as vehicles will not be able to cross the creek while the bridge is being constructed. • Installation of a floating footbridge across the creek, upstream of the vehicle crossing area, similar to the floating boardwalk used in the Twin Falls Gorge. • Establishment of a vehicle shuttle service from the other side of the creek crossing into the Twin Falls area. • Creation of passenger marshalling area on the Twin Falls side of the crossing. • Creation of walking track from the footbridge to the passenger marshalling area on the Twin Falls side of the crossing. • Relocation of parking areas in the Jim Jim Creek Day Use area. • Relocation of the entry point of the Budjmi walk away from the construction area.
