 Description of Broomehill

Broomehill is located 302 km south east of Perth on the Great Southern Highway and 20km south of Katanning. The town of Broomehill was established after the Great Southern Railway between Perth and Albany was completed in 1889.

Now just a small town, Broomehill is predominantly a sheep- and grain-producing area, although there is also growing interest in aquaculture, viticulture and horticulture within the Shire.

You can get a feel for the past, and what it was like in the days of the early pioneers by taking a short drive to the Eticup Cemetery on Greenhills Road. There are also a few historic buildings in good condition throughout the town, such as St Elizabeth's Church built in 1892 (originally the Police Station); the Post Office built in 1892; The Jones Building built in 1911 was the general store; the Wadjekar Bridge; the old Hayfield School; an 1854 pioneer grave; the 1898 Museum; and the Imperial Hotel.

A few local wineries, a Roadhouse and even a Barramundi farm are open to visiting tourists.
